I have enrolled in an on-line course @the Haverhill Institute of Staging & Design to become an accredited Professional Home Stager. I've watched many, many shows on HGTV that "stage" homes for people trying to sell their homes and I thought, "that's what I LOVE to do (but never knew it had a name)."
When I go into people's homes, I often think "how can I change this room around to be more inviting, more pleasing to the eye, etc.?" And now, with the help of this course, I can become an accredited Professional Home Stager & help people stage their homes which are up for sale but aren't attracting too many buyers.
One of the requirements is that I stage three homes (mine being one of them). Two friends have graciously agreed to help me with this.
If I pass this course, I am GUARANTEED employment plus, I can also "free lance". I am just so excited about this ! ! !

Good luck with the course. Check the BBB rating for them. The course cannot be completed in 4 weeks as they claim and it is way more difficult then they claim. I recently received my accredition and was lucky to get a 80% on the lessons, however the online test is very difficult and under a two hour time constaint.
I just took the online test and feel sure I flunked. I worked very hard on my 3 home stages, used 3 homes for extra credit and still received a low score. They claim I did not indicate why some rooms were not staged, which in the bulletin board there was no indication of the necessity to do that, and I was deducted points. Also deducted for supposively not staging enough rooms per each exercise and they couldn't tell if I learned how to properly stage. Yet, I did 6 rooms for one exercise, 8 for another and 4 for the last one, the other rooms in the homes were unavailable to me.
The test was extremely difficult with hard fill in the blank completion sentences.I will know my test results in a couple of weeks, but feel sure I did not pass.
Well, just received my test score and total overall score...77. I "flunked" below the 80% so I do not qualify for employment. I have not decided if I want to re-test, if it is even worth the effort. Thank goodness my husband and I are self employed and make a decent living without Haverhill. I was just looking to expand our business and do something I really enjoy. I am looking at possibly joining a class action suit to get a refund, my husband is really pissed off about their underhanded policies. He believes this is a pyramid scheme and very few people will get hired, they just keep sucking people into their con
Thank you all for your comments. This is very interesting to say the least.
I am also interested in hearing about this class action suit.
I haven't even begun to "stage" my first room but the 411 y'all provided is quite telling. It's funny cause I keep getting this nagging feeling that they score you below 80% on purpose.
We will see how it goes & I'll keep you up on how I do.
Hi Patty! I do believe that Haverhill makes it very difficult to get hired. I finally got a score of 82% after revising course work, and taking the very hard test twice (you have to be a speed reader because there are test questions that are fill in the blank ones like "Pay special attention to the _____ when ____ because over time it builds up ____ and ____ ."). Now that I am elegible for hire, I have one month to submit a background check, three letters of recommendation from previous employers, three personal letters of recommendation, proof of auto ownership and insurance, among others. It's not a done deal once you get the 80%. You still have to do phone interview and get liability insurance for the first three months. If I had known all of this beforehand, I wouldn't have done it.
oh no thats very discouraging. there goes another $1000.
I would be interested in a class action suit, also. I read the material and talked with one of the representatives who gave no indication that many rooms would be needed for each assignment. The told me I didn't need to do major changes in other people's homes if they didn't want that or didn't have the means to do so. After reading your blog, I am beginning to smell a scam.

I have just finished the course and I am very disappointed. I did all the exercises and took the test a couple of days ago. The test is rigged. The only way to pass it is either to memorize all the material word for word, or not have the test timed. I searched for the exact wording in the books and found them but lost time and could not finish. The instructor, Kimberly Uksik, aside from FAQ's is completely unavailable. If you ask too many questions or complain about something, you get the coldest reception from staff. There are accredited reputable staging programs out there, Like Barb Schwarz. Go with those courses and avoid Haverhill like the plague!
Haverhill is a scam, my daughter took the course and actually passed it 4 or 5 months ago. After passing the course then there are what they claim are on-line training classes. This is a delay tactic because they don't intend to offer any real work that provides that guaranteed $24 to $31hr income. Anyone know of an attorney willing to take on Haverhill and HGTV?
I also have nothing good to say about Haverhill. I did everything asked of me and was scored very low on each chapter and the final is a joke. It is impossible to finish in 2 hrs. This is their way of making sure they do not have to offer you employment. PLEASE let's get a class action suit going against this company!
Has anyone found a class action suite? I, too, was taken...redid coursework they said did not qualify...retook test and passed, was promised the 'promised' job of $31/hour only to have them withdraw that job offer to a freelance 'job' with them-excuses, and more excuses...sure would like for all of us to get our money back.
